Director, Data Science - COE Innovations

Position SummaryWhat you'll doThe Associate Learning & Leadership team supports associate processes across the enterprise and talent life cycle, from selection and assessments to performance management, talent identification and succession planning, to development of new skills and leadership behaviors.
As this Center of Excellence works to drive critical talent processes deeper into the organization and across all areas of Walmart and Sam's Club, it is critical that innovation is accelerated, particularly in GenAI, to bring new tools to associates as well as automating and augmenting existing internal processes to create new capacity for the COE and a more cohesive talent ecosystem.
The Innovations Director will lead a team of experts in defining, prioritizing, piloting and implementing Proofs of Concept (POCs) across the talent life cycle, partnering across Centers of Excellence, Product, Engineering and the Associate Learning & Leadership team.
The successful candidate will have proven experience with the following
Responsibilities:
Understanding Business Context and People Practices - involves evaluating proposed business cases, translating business requirements into strategies, initiatives, and projects, challenging business assumptions, creating test cases and proofs of concept, and proactively engaging in the external community to learn more about industry practices.
Problem Formulation - involves analyzing the business problem, identifying and recommending approaches to resolve the problem, setting relevant deliverables, defining key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness, and quantifying business impact in partnership with the COE Data & Insights team.
Data Source Identification - involves understanding priority order of requirements and service level agreements, defining and identifying the most suitable sources for required data that is fit for purpose, performing initial data quality checks on the extracted data, and reviewing the deliverables of junior associates and providing guidance on data source and quality.
Data Visualization - involves generating appropriate graphical representations of data and model outcomes to build compelling stories based on context, presenting to and influencing diverse audiences, customizing communication style based on stakeholders, guiding and mentoring junior associates on story types, structures, and techniques based on context.
Model Assessment and Validation - involves identifying and reviewing model evaluation metrics based on analytical requirements, applying suitable techniques for model testing and tuning, assessing accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness of the model, and ensuring testing information is documented and maintained by the team.
Model Deployment and Scaling - involves deploying models or model ensemble, ensuring sustainability and maintenance over time, implementing model monitoring and model life-cycle management practices, and assisting in creation of innovative user interfaces and supporting the use of models through collaboration with key stakeholders.
Overall Direction and Leadership - involves analyzing business objectives and associate needs, developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans, and practices, evaluating operational processes, promoting an associate-centric environment, and demonstrating adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning.
Talent Management - involves developing and implementing strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce, diagnosing capability gaps, recruiting, selecting, and developing talent, supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning, and leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.
Integrity and Ethics - involves cultivating an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices, developing consequences for violations or non-compliance, and supporting the Open Door Policy.
Partnerships and Networks - involves developing and leveraging internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
